My Why
I created Certifiably B.L.A.C.K. because I was tired of seeing our communities reduced to trauma and struggle. I’ve lived through systems that weren’t built for me, navigated spaces where I was often the only one who looked like me, and parented while healing from the wounds of my past. I know what it feels like to be silenced, overlooked, and underestimated and I also know the power of rising anyway. As a single Black mother, educator, and community leader, I’ve spent my life turning pain into purpose. I’ve worked in classrooms, shelters, group homes, and district offices. I’ve led trainings for educators, built curriculum from the ground up, and walked alongside families through some of their hardest moments. Every space I enter, I bring my full self not just the degrees and certifications, but the lived wisdom, the ancestral fire, and the deep belief that our joy is sacred and our liberation is non-negotiable.Certifiably B.L.A.C.K. isn’t just a business t’s a movement. It’s zines. It’s podcast episodes. It’s curriculum and community events. It’s a Liberation Festival that brings us together in joy and resistance. It’s for the kids who feel unseen, for the mamas doing it all, and for the educators trying to do better with too little support. My work is grounded in storytelling, relationship-building, and joy as resistance. I’m not here to check a box I’m here to change how we see ourselves and how the world sees us. And I believe with everything in me that small shifts create big revolutions. If you’re here, welcome. You’ve found a space where your story matters, your healing is honored, and your joy is powerful.
